Digital Twinning & Process Modelling for HPDC: Insights & Timing

This presentation, based on a talk at last October’s Congress, seeks to highlight the value and challenges of manufacturing data in high-rate, high-volume, automation-intensive processes such as high-pressure die casting. To help you build a business case for Industry 4.0 in your operations, we look at the evolution of data management and provide a R&D lab’s experience on the new possibilities with the introduction of connected devices in a small-scale structural die casting cell. We then explore extension of already well-established process simulations to dosing and spray peripherals based on such process data, to reach higher-fidelity modelling at design for quality management. Numerical methods and challenges remaining to calibrate such models based on dedicated experiments are presented, and insight on future simulation improvement trends such as external solidification is proposed.

Finally, we conclude on future applications of cell data management, analytics, and simulation, and possible ways to integrate these numerical toolboxes for continuous improvement. Join us for this high-level presentation with time reserved for Q&A to shed light on this more abstract side of manufacturing operations.
